Dragon Awakening
Aspenta was a place filled with life. Retam stayed out of the knowledge of most. The deities played their games. The angels protected those in need. The dwarves were the ancient divine race, which stayed under ground still mining for treasures. The elves and halflings lived above ground in happiness and beauty sharing whatever knowledge and resources they had. The rest of the races strove for survival. Those that were evil were quickly destroyed while those that showed compassion and intelligence were given a chance to flourish.
Deep within the mines of the dwarves, magic was still emerging from the ground. It was doing so more now than ever and the concentration of magic on Aspenta rose drastically as the dwarves multiplied and dug deeper and deeper. This was when magic took on form. Large concentration of magic had created by-products in the past such as the elves but now the concentration was so high that it could manifest itself. Thus, the first dragons appeared. The halflings and elves sang tales of how the dragons had been found underground and then awakened by the greed of the dwarves. The truth is that they were the manifestation of pure magic and indeed the magical concentrations were unleashed by the dwarves. Soon, the dwarves heard the songs and tales themselves.
The dragons were not evil but all of them were different. They held more power than any of the races on Aspenta, even the dwarves. Only the angels surpassed them and they did not oppose them since the dragons had practically created the elves and the halflings. Still, the songs reached many cities and it wasn't long before there were disputes among the races and cities about the dwarf society and their greed.
